Three Short Pieces
alto flute, clarinet, violin, cello, piano, percussion (1995)
Duration: ca. 7’
Three Short Pieces is scored for flute, clarinet, violin, cello, piano and percussion. Each of the three pieces revolves around brief, fleeting, melodic lines and short ostinato patterns. In their relative duration, the two, shorter outside movements form ‘bookends’ around the slightly longer and more active middle piece, creating an overall mirror-like structure to the work. The second piece also has a mirror-like structure, ending as it begins, and as such, forms the mirror-like centre of the entire work.
